FAQs - Appleton Educational Services

How are lessons taught by a Specialist Teacher different from a general tutor?

Our teachers hold PGCEs and are experienced teachers, who understand the British educational system and the different curriculums across Key Stages. Our Specialist Teacher has completed a diploma in specialist teaching and has years of experience helping children with a range of learning needs including neurodiversity and SEND support.

How much is an assessment?

A full assessment is £650 plus travel costs if necessary. A full diagnostic report will be made available after the assessment, between two to four weeks later. This can be shared with educational centres and workplaces, but please be aware reports following a diagnostic assessment are not intended to be used in a court of law. An exam access arrangements assessment is £350 plus travel costs if necessary. Please be aware no diagnosis can be made via this assessment.

How are lessons planned

The lessons are planned with your individual child in mind, concentrating on their needs and having a deep understanding of the challenges they face within their learning. Targets for their learning will be gleaned through conversation with the child’s parents and the child themselves, and the lessons will address challenges at the point of learning. The lessons will also be tailored to your child’s interests, where they can be, and will be engaging and enjoyable.

How much do Specialist Teacher lessons cost?

This depends on the age of your child or whether you are an adult. Lesson length can also vary, as we are aware longer lessons can be too onerous for some children and adults. The lessons are bespoke and individualised. Please contact us via the contact page for prices for your personal situation.

What does an assessment entail?

A set of questionnaires will be sent out before the assessment to glean as much background information as possible. Information from your child’s school is essential but any contact is subject to parental consent and the school will not be contacted without your permission.

Standardised tests are used in the assessment to strengthen the reliability of information gathered. If communication with other professionals is necessary, again parental consent will be obtained.
If your child has a preferred writing instrument or wears glasses, these should be brought to the appointment if in a face to face setting.

What is the cost of coaching sessions?

Our coaching sessions are £70 per hour and are run virtually.
